Master Gardener Xeriscaping Project

Rowan Public Library

Salisbury, NC

Xeriscaping is the compound of the Greek xeros, dry, and "scaping," as in landscaping. Xeriscaping essentially refers to a landscape that has been carefully tailored to withstand droughts and low moisture situations. Rowan County Master Gardener Volunteers are using  the front entrance of the Rowan County Public Library to study which plants will tolerate hot, dry conditions in the Piedmont of North Carolina.  Master Gardener Caryn Blackwood  is spearheading this project.

Below is information about the project. The planting consists of both annual and perennials known to withstand both heat and dry weather conditions. This planting was initiated in July 2003.
